The simplest, most eco-friendly and affordable way to filter and mineralise tap water, plastic-free! This 100% natural, reusable and recyclable, cartridge-free tap water filter is made of pure Binchotan activated charcoal. It purifies water by removing heavy metals and chemicals, removes Chlorine and removes bacteria (E. coli). It enriches the water by adding the beneficial minerals, Magnesium and Calcium. These were originally stored in the hardwood tree from which it was created. Binchotan also releases Potassium and Phosphorus. This activated charcoal stick improves taste and odour and  balances an acidic pH.

KURO-Bō Activated Charcoal has been put through a range of scientific tests to evaluate its capacity for toxin, chemical and bacteria absorption and removal, as well as its ability to balance pH an enrich ordinary tap water with beneficial minerals – all with significant and exciting results. All tests were performed by A.L Abbott and Associates (Pty) Ltd, SANAS-accredited Specialists in Water and Waste Water Treatment – Reg. No.82/04379/07. See the proof here.

How to use

KURO-Bō is very easy to use. Watch this video here to see the four simple steps how to use and how YOU can turn your toxin-trapped tap water into pure, toxin-free water that is pH balanced and mineral-rich.

After activating your KURO-Bō stick or kōins, you will have to reactivate it after one month of daily use by simply boiling for 10 minutes as per the video. This opens the pores so your water tastes sweet and smooth. After the second month of daily use, reactivate your stick or kōins again and pop it straight back into your water dispenser. After three months, remove your KURO-Bō and either reactivate them once more if your water still tastes clean and refreshing. If not, use it in any number of the fantastically useful ways in the ‘End of Lifespan’ creative ideas below.

Keep track of your KURO-Bō kōins or stick’s lifespan by  signing up for easy and convenient “Monthly Reactivation E-Reminders” from the KURO-Bō home page.

End of lifespan

Use it as a unique and original décor piece
String up in the garden or window-frames for a delicately tinkling, Japanese-inspired wind-chime
Line up a collection of Sticks from longest to shortest for a wonderfully unusual xylophone like the Japanese tankin

What about the packaging?

This stick comes in a recyclable box and a corn starch bag. Please compost the bag and do NOT recycle with your curbside recycling. Corn-based plastics are compostable, but cause problems at recycling centers.  Polylactic acid (PLA) has different melting point properties and can therefore not be recycled with conventional petroleum-based plastics.  If you don’t own one of our Bokashi Food Waste Bins for composting at home yet, please cut the bag in strips and bury in your garden soil.

KURO-Bo has revolutionised how we drink water in our home: clean, tasty, plastic-free water everyday – better for us and the environment. My husband was initially sceptical so we did a blind tasting of tap water, bottled water, and KURO-Bo water … KURO-Bo won hands down and we are now almost on our 4th stick. Simple to use, affordable, and environmentally friendly!
