Sowing season for brinjal or eggplant seeds is spring to summer. Let’s get sowing and have fun exploring these tasty eggplant recipes. It is so rewarding to put together an Eggplant Parmesan or a plate of grilled eggplant that grew from seeds you sowed yourself. Also known as aubergine, brinjal is a great source of vitamins and minerals. Moreover, purple food is very good for your health due to its high levels of antioxidants such as anthocyanin and flavonoids.

These certified organic heirloom seeds don’t contain genetically modified organisms. They’re open pollinated seeds, meaning you can save your own seeds to grow more plants with most of the qualities of the parent plant. The Sandveld Organics founders, Theunis and Susi Engelbrecht, are pioneers in organic agriculture on the West Coast. Sharing their knowledge and experience, they started assisting a group of less privileged women from the fishing community in Lamberts Bay, struggling with their vegetable garden. Together with the support of several State Departments, this initiative has developed into a structures support programme to help emerging farmers.
